Standards for Progress in the Major

All students are limited to 24 credit hours of business course work which is strictly enforced by the College through registration restrictions. Business majors may exceed this limit once they have met Standards for Progress (i.e. continuance) as a business major.

Admission to the major does not imply the student will be accepted for continuance once they have completed 60 credit hours.

Minimum requirements which allow a student to qualify to continue as a business major are as follows:

  • Complete, with a minimum grade of C or better, the following tool courses: ACC 131, ACC 132; BUS 100; ECO 105; MQM 100 (or ECO/GEO/POS/PSY 138); MAT 121 or MAT 145. (NOTE: BTE majors must complete MAT 120 or MAT 121 or MAT 144 or MAT 145).
  • Prove computer competency (spreadsheet usage, presentation software, and web page construction) through completion of the following: (ACC 167 & 168; ACC 166 or IT 150; IAI BUS 902); or by passing college-administered competency exams (ACC 189.67 and 189.68).

Verification of Standards for Progress in the Major

Students who have met all College of Business continuance requirements have a special coding that allows them to enroll in upper-level business classes that may exceed 24 business hours.

The records of business students who have not yet received the advanced continuance coding will be assessed prior to each registration period and students will be notified of their status. This assessment will electronically scan all College of Business majors who have earned at least 43 semester hours but have not yet been coded as a continuing major. Students DO NOT need to file an application.

If you question anything about your continuance status, seek advice/clarification from the College of Business Advisement Center (COB 129) prior to your advanced registration date.
