Internal Illinois State University Students Requesting a Major or Minor Change

 

Once you have taken classes at Illinois State University, the Admission criteria varies based on how far you are along in your academic career. New internal major and minor applications are accepted in February and September. The application can be found on iCampus under the Academics tab.


Internal Major Change Requirements:

The admission criteria for students applying in February or September is as follows:

  • Students with 12 - 44 credit hours earned and in progress
    • 2.50 grade point average

  • Students with 45 - 59 earned and in-progress hours:
    • 2.5 grade point average
    • Earned grades of C of better in all of the following courses:
      • ACC 131
      • ECO 105
      • MAT 119 and MAT 120* or MATH 121


  • Students with 60 or more earned and in progress hours:
    • 2.5 grade point average
    • Earned grades of C of better in all of the following courses:
      • ACC 131
      • ACC 132
      • ECO 105
      • MQM 100 or( ECO/PSY/GEO/POL 138)
      • MAT 121 (Business Teacher Education Majors must complete Mat 120 only).

*Enrollment in ACC 230 and/or 231 requires a "B/C" grade combination between ACC 131 and 132..

**Registration for BUS 100 is blocked for business majors only. If all other admission criteria are met or in progress, an override will be provided by College of Business advisors for that semester.

College of Business Standards for Progress in the Major


Students are limited to 24 credit hours in business until they have successfully completed the College of Business Standards for Progress in the Major (i.e. continuance). These standards represent the minimum requirements that a student must meet in order to continue as a business major.

Minor or Major Changes

Change of Major/Minor requests are accepted twice a year during the months of September and February.

  • Change of Major/Minor requests are processed through iCampus.  Students may apply through the “my info” tab and following the instructions.
  • Post-Grade Review Applications will be accepted Wednesday , May 11th through Friday, May 20, 2011 and at the end of summer session from Wednesday, August 12th though Friday, August 19, 2011 at which time students may go to iCampus and request a major change All lower level tool courses must be completed with 'C's or better and students must have a minimum 2.50 GPA(see 'Standards for Progress in the Major' for more information). Official transcripts are required.
