Internal ISU Students Requesting a Major Change

 

The College of Business requires internal and external transfers to meet coursework and GPA requirements that vary depending on total earned hours. Internal transfers must have at least 12 graded hours at the university before they can request to declare a major in the College of Business.

Current admission requirements for internal and external transfer students are as follows:

  • 0-44 earned hours

    • top 1/4 of high school class - 2.5 GPA & min 19 ACT
    • top 1/2 of high school class - 2.5 GPA & min 20 ACT
    • top 3/4 of high school class - 2.5 GPA & min 23 ACT

  • 45-59 earned and in progress hours

    • 2.50 GPA and grades of "C" or better in the following coursework or their equivalents: ACC 131, ECO 105, MAT 119 and MAT 120 or MAT 121

  • 60 + earned and in progress hours

    • 2.5 GPA and grades of "C" or better in the following coursework or their equivalents: ACC 131, ACC 132; ECO 105: MQM 100 (or ECO/GEO/POL/PSY 138); MAT 121
    • Students must also complete the following course requirements with grades of "c" or better by the end of their first semester at Illinois State:
        1. Complete BUS 100
        2. Prove computer competency through completion of one of the following or their equivalents
          • ACC 167 and 168;
          • ACC 166;
          • ITK 150;
          • IAI BUS 902; or
          • By passing College administered competency exams (ACC 189.67 & ACC 189.68)
  • Note: Business Teacher Education Majors complete BTE 140 and MAT 120 or MAT 121 or MAT 144 or MAT 145.

College of Business Standards for Progress in the Major

Students are limited to 24 credit hours in business until they have successfully completed the College of Business Standards for Progress in the Major. These standards represent the minimum standards for a student to continue as a business major. Through a competitive and selective process, students are evaluated for continuance from a pool of qualified applicants on the basis of individual qualifications. The number of students who continue in a program may vary from year to year depending on program capacity and the qualifications of students in the pool.

Change of Major/Minor Requests

Change of Major/Minor request forms are available and accepted for processing twice a year during the months of September and February.

  • Post Grade Review Form (pdf) - Do not use this form unless you have met all of the "Standards for Progress in the Major." This form is to be used by non-business majors applying for a change to an undergraduate business major at the end of the spring 2008 semester. Forms will be accepted from May 14- June 2 if the transcripts have been articulated or we have the official transcript. We will not accept unofficial transcripts. Students may also turn their forms in during final exam week prior to leaving campus for summer break.
