Scott Carr: Class of 1985
Current Position: Managing Director for Northwestern Mutual’s largest district office.
Career Track & Achievements: Began at Northwestern Mutual as an intern and has moved up through the rank to become Managing Director. He is responsible for 35 representatives and 25 staff members. His favorite success stories are those of his clients whom he has helped along the way.
My Typical Day: Beginning at 7 a.m, the morning consists of meeting with financial representatives. Mid-morning meetings are dedicated to running the office and office management related issues. The rest of the day is open for meeting with clients and/or recruits.
Why you should consider a career in Sales: With Northwestern Mutual specifically, there are three reasons for going into sales. The first being unlimited income potential. Second, there is a high degree of independence and autonomy. Third, there is the ability to have a tremendous impact on people’s lives based on how they serve their clients.
How the Sales Program Helped to Prepare Me for My Career: Although the sales major had not yet been conceived when Carr was in school at ISU, he believes his professors made a great impact on his current success. They showed him the importance of having an internship, and were instrumental on helping Carr receive his first internship at Northwestern Mutual.
