Profile:

Linda Showers joined the Marketing faculty at Illinois State University in August 1987. Previously, she taught courses in Consumer Behavior and Advertising/Promotional Strategy as an instructor at Ohio State University while pursuing the doctorate in Marketing.

Current Teaching Interests: Buyer Behavior/Consumer Research, Integrated Marketing Communication/Promotional Strategy, Marketing Strategy and Planning, Introduction to Marketing Management.

Current Research Interests: Dr. Showers' primary research interests include consumer decision-making and information processing. Current project areas include the price-perceived quality relationship, stress in purchase/consumption, servant marketing and the impact of life stage on consumer expenditure patterns. Professor Showers' published work has appeared in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Business and Psychology, International Marketing Review, Advancing the Consumer Interest, Advances in Consumer Research, Proceedings of the AMA Winter Educators' Conference and Developments in Marketing Science.

Consulting and Work Experience: Dr. Showers worked as a research associate to the FDA, Division of Drug Advertising and Labeling, Rockville , MD in 1983. She assisted in the design and implementation of a study on the impact of prescription drug advertising on consumers. Professor Showers was also a research and promotional consultant to the Ohio Grape Industries Program in 1984, designing promotional exhibits and conducting consumer exploratory surveys on product awareness, perceptions and usage, and she worked for several years for a market research firm.

Profesional Affiliations, Honors, and Awards:Linda is a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA). In 1986, she represented The Ohio State University at the AMA Doctoral Consortium held that year at the University of Notre Dame. While teaching at Ohio State , Professor Showers received the OSU Student Chapter of AMA Graduate Teaching Associate of the Year Award in 1986 and repeated in 1987. Dr. Showers served as Faculty Advisor for Delta Sigma Pi from 1988 to 1992 and in 1989 received the Chapter Advisor of the Year Award for the Great Lakes Region. In the Spring of 1991, Dr. Showers was recognized by the Illinois State Alumni Association as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the College of Business for 1990-91 at Illinois State University . Linda is also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Mortar Board, and Phi Kappa Phi. Dr. Showers received the COB Technology Award in 2002.
