Marketing Research and Retail Management
Dr. Kaufman joined the Marketing faculty at Illinois State University in August 2004. Previously, Peter taught Marketing Strategy and Marketing Research while pursuing a doctorate in Marketing at the University of South Carolina. His current teaching interests include Marketing Strategy and International Marketing.
Dr. Kaufman's current research interests focus on buyer-seller relationships, channel management, sales promotions, and new product development. He has published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Marketing Research.
Dr. Kaufman worked for several years in sales for Nabisco Biscuit Company and has gained international experience working in strategic planning for DuPont in Mexico City. He has traveled extensively throughout Mexico profiling numerous businesses in various business sectors. While there, his primary interests were to understand business development and perceived export opportunities with the United States in the agriculture and textiles and apparel sectors.
Dr. Kaufman was awarded a Watson Fellowship in 1993 and a Fulbright Bi-national Business Award in 1999. He has also received an Honorable Mention in the Marketing Science Institute 2003 Alden G. Clayton Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Competition.
In 2007, Dr. Kaufman, as a co-director, led a grant proposal that was subsequently awarded a U.S. Department of Education grant to promote international business education at Illinois State University
For 2008, Dr. Kaufman was the recipient of the College of Business Wilma Jean Alexander Award for innovative instructional technology use in teaching and the American Marketing Association's Prentice Hall Solomon-Marshall-Stuart Award for Innovative Excellence in Marketing Education.
