Certified Management Accountants (CMAs) complete rigorous educational programs in management accounting and financial management. This certification is offered by the Institute of Management Accountants . The IMA Professional Development Curriculum contains a full range of educational programs for financial managers and decision makers, with a variety of formats, including web-enabled training.
Certified Treasury Professionals (CTPs) manage businesses' cash positions, invest funds in short-term marketable securities, and make other financial decisions regarding risk management and funding. They may also perform these duties for non-business organizations, such as government agencies. The CTP is offered by the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), which also provides continuing education, promotes public policy research, develops financial tools, sets industry standards, produces publications, and represents the financial industry to legislators and regulators. The AFP serves more than 14,000 individual members who have titles such as CFO, Vice President of Finance, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Director, Financial Analyst, or Cash Manager.
Approximately one third of CTP-designated professionals are employed in financial institutions. The other two thirds work in the business financial sector, helping companies and other organizations meet their liquidity needs by overseeing the holding and investing of cash and short-term securities.
