John Lust Steps Up as Associate Dean

Jim Moon Retiring

Incoming Associate Dean, John Lust, is the former Chair of Management and Quantitative Methods. He knows exactly what his plans are once he assumes his new role in January. "Now that we have been recognized as a top 75 business school, I am excited to work with Interim Dean McGuire and the rest of the College leadership as we try to move to top 50 status," explained Lust. He believes an essential step is the establishment of an endowment so the College has the resources necessary to achieve this goal.

Several elements associated with the Associate Dean's position intrigue Lust. "I am particularly interested in the AACSB reaffirmation process and the central role that the Associate Dean plays in the accreditation process. Hopefully our next visit in 2011-12 will be as smooth as earlier visits," added Lust.

Lust's other responsibilities include coordination and analysis of college operating and personnel budgets; oversight of technology planning and budgeting; leadership of the annual plan and priorities updates; and oversight of the Faculty Resource Center.

"It will be exciting to work with the excellent faculty that we have across the departments. I served for two years as College Research Coordinator prior to becoming MQM Chair 10 years ago, so I had experience working across the various disciplines represented in the College. It will be interesting to broaden my focus and work on College level issues once again."

"John is an experienced administrator who knows the college and its needs well," said Interim Dean, Chuck McGuire. "I have the greatest confidence in his abilities."

Associate Dean Jim Moon is retiring after 14 years of service to the College of Business. A public celebration in his honor is scheduled for Friday, December 7 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Lower Level Atrium of the College of Business Building.

Moon began his career in the College of Business as Chairperson of the Accounting Department and has served as Associate Dean since 2005. Jim and his wife Gail have a home just outside of Chattanooga in Ooltewah, Tennessee.

"I have no real plans after retiring other than to stop and smell the roses. I have been asked to do some consulting for AACSB and do personal financial planning but have not decided if I want to do those things yet," explained Moon. First up is a vacation to Florida. "After that," said Moon, "who knows!"
