After many years of outstanding service to the college of Business, Lee Graf and Mark Slama have retired.

Lee’s research program has focused on international management, innovative management practices, unionization in institutions of higher learning, and experiential learning/pedagogical innovation. More recently, however, his research has shifted to sexual harassment, issues related to entrepreneurship/small business management, and a myriad of topics related to terrorism and reduction of risk of terrorist attack. Lee was selected as a Fellow of the Association for Business Simulation and Experiential Learning in 1992. In 1995, Graf was awarded the ISU designation of Outstanding University Researcher, and in 1998, received the Caterpillar Scholar designation.
Mark Slama joined the faculty at Illinois State University in August 1991. Greg Blaesing, district manager for CUTCO/VECTOR, recently wrote Career Center director, Michael Schermer with praise for ISU students. Excerpts from his letter appear below.
I just wanted to let you know about the amazing things your students are doing within our company.
Senior marketing major Zach Wagner will be opening his own office this summer. Zach's leadership is outstanding. He has sold over $150,000 worth of our products and is a scholarship winner within our company. Zach has been able to personally save almost $20,000 as a college student. We had Zach run training seminars and interviews for our office and he has also shared responsibility for organizing and setting up Home Shows for our division.
Marketing alum, Rich Gilbert is currently running the Orland Park office and is one of the top 10 new district managers in the company. He ran the Merrillville office this summer and then transferred to his home territory this fall. Richie has amazing drive and leadership skills and has already sold more than $200,000 worth of our products. This has given him the ability to buy two pieces of real estate in the Chicago area.
Steve O'Conner is a senior marketing major at ISU and has been one of the best representatives the Bloomington office has ever seen. He has been an assistant manager in the summer twice and received a promotion during winter break. Steve's financial success with our company has been outstanding. Through his work with CUTCO he has traveled to 10 countries and is nearing $100,000 in personal sales.
We love working with ISU students. They truly are the cream of the crop. We love being Gold Partners with the Professional Sales Institute in the College of Business and look forward to an exciting future and a record breaking 2007. You have helped our students and company so much it cannot be explained with words.
