From Curious George to the NFL, licensing is BIG business.
It was wonderful to see so many colleagues at our Fall Conference and to be a part of the interesting discussions and exchange of information. The next day we welcomed our new freshmen to the college, and I thank the many faculty and staff who participated in the departmental Passages programs. We are fortunate to have such strong demand from talented students, and it is important to turn their focus to our business academic programs, faculty and staff on their first full day on campus. The year ahead is a promising one.
Business schools must encourage students to develop a deep understanding of the myriad of challenges surrounding corporate responsibility and corporate governance; provide them with tools for recognizing and responding to ethical issues, both personally and organizationally; and engage them at an individual level through analyses of both positive and negative examples of everyday conduct in business.
Those recommendations come from the ethics task force of the AACSB. While the team did not prescribe a particular curriculum or course, it recommended member schools actively and systematically demonstrate their commitment to ethical responsibility at both the individual and organizational levels through academic programs, assessment processes, research agendas, and outreach activities. That is exactly what’s happening in the College of Business.
Peter Kaufman (MKT) is convinced students need help thinking strategically about their career development and the skills necessary to secure a job through which they will find both enjoyment and success. They also need to connect course content with real-world applications. To foster this sort of active reflection, Kaufman recruited a diverse team of COB alumni to serve as e-mentors for his section of “Strategic Marketing”-- the capstone course for undergraduate marketing majors.
