Many faculty allowed us to announce the invitations in their classes, and many faculty encouraged students to join. Two colleagues even made a financial investment to encourage students—they offered to pay all or part of the initiation fee for students in their classes. Needless to say, those students realized that this was an important opportunity they should not miss.
At the initiation program, Jack North, Senior Executive Vice President at State Farm, gave the keynote address. Jack served for many years on our College of Business Advisory Council and has been a great friend to us and the university. We also presented the first Jack North Student Leadership Award-- an award established by the Campaign Steering Committee at the end of the “Redefining normal” campaign to honor Jack’s exemplary leadership. Each year we will be able to honor a graduating business major who has demonstrated a commitment to servant leadership as well as academic excellence. Ryan Brown, a Bone Scholar and senior finance major, was selected as the first recipient.
Please continue to help us build student interest in Beta Gamma Sigma. In the fall, we will be dedicating a Beta Gamma Sigma bronze key in the Courtyard, which will provide a visible symbol of the importance of Beta Gamma Sigma in our AACSB-accredited College of Business.
