Business Week 2013 Application
Business Week, which began in 1979, is a longstanding tradition in the College of Business. The mission of the Business Week Team is to partner with the Dean’s office in the planning, promotion and implementation of various College of Business functions throughout the year that culminate during Business Week in the spring. Participation on the Business Week Team helps members develop essential communication, organization, problem solving, collaboration, leadership and project management skills that employers prize.
Each activity, presentation and event held by this RSO is designed to foster students’ appreciation for the array of skills required in a dynamic and constantly changing professional environment in ways that can’t be duplicated in a classroom situation. Speakers and activities address topics such as leadership, corporate social responsibility, business etiquette, effective networking, goal setting, interviewing skills and career management. All of the events are created by the Business Week Committee using input from students, faculty and alumni, including members of the College of Business Advisory Council, members of the College of Business Hall of Fame and Early Career Achievement Award Winners.
As the only college-wide event, Business Week is actively embraced by faculty, external partners, individual students and the officers and members of 22 Registered Student Organizations in the College of Business. It is important to note the Business Week Committee makes strategic and purposeful efforts to encourage participation in key events by students and faculty members in other colleges and the broader community so they are aware of speakers and activities that would be of special interest and benefit to them.
The Business Week Mentoring program introduced in 2011 partnered 50 faculty and peer-nominated upperclassmen with 50 Business 100 students showing strong leadership potential. The program is designed to help prepare younger students take full benefit of Business Week events and also:
