In the mid 1990's he developed a WWW based portfolio system (http://portfolio.ilstu.edu) that allows students to demonstrate mastery of educational standards and competencies. He was quickly joined in this effort by other faculty and this collaboration has resulted in multiple revisions of the system as well as scholarship associated with the system.

Today, the webfolio system facilitates creation and maintenance of a tightly integrated collection of web-based multimedia documents that includes curricular standards, course assignments, student artifacts in response to assignments, and reviewer feedback of students' work . Students build www portfolios that combine text, audio, video, and images to show how they are interweaving career planning, formal classroom work, and student life activities into unique educational experiences. The system assists faculty in building web-based courses that include syllabi, course specific competencies, and resources that address each competency.

This and other research by Love has appeared in journals such as Educause Quarterly, Journal of Special Education Technology, Annals of Regional Science, Southern Economic Journal, and Journal of Official Statistics. His work has been cited in academic journals as well as in popular publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and American Demographics.
